Prioritize your Day

Prioritize your Day
Running a small business with ADHD doesn’t have to be a struggle. One way I make sure that I don’t get overwhelmed is to prioritize my day. I make a small to-do list with 1-2 tasks that are my focus of the day. I have a bigger to-do list but that’s not what I look at daily! Whew, that would be overwhelming! I pick the most pressing issues and focus on completing my 2 tasks for the day.

Communicate your Needs

Communicate your Needs
Working for a boss who doesn’t understand your ADHD symptoms can lead to some conflicting situations. A tip I have for you is to make sure you communicate. Your boss can’t read your mind that sending you multiple emails every hour is overwhelming. You can start but requesting to be sent one email at the top of the hour with any pressing issues. Maybe you can avoid emails and request to have a daily 2-3 minute meeting each day about what tasks are most important for you to accomplish. Find what works for both of you.

Be Kind to Yourself

Be Kind to Yourself
Today’s tip is to talk to yourself as if you were talking to your friend. Would you tell them that they are a failure? Of course not! Be kind to yourself. You are doing the best you can, be patient with yourself and show yourself compassion.

Don’t hold emotions inside

Don’t hold emotions inside
Sometimes, it’s hard to express our emotions which can lead to frustrating conversations both in our heads and with the people we communicate with. But internalizing this is not helpful. You can use this group to help or find one person who you feel most comfortable talking to. You don’t have to feel your feelings alone and voicing them can help you name them and overcome them.

Move each Day

Move each Day
Make it a point to move each day. Whether that is a hard workout, yoga or just a walk around the block, find something that will get you moving. Moving works to increase your dopamine levels which in turn will balance yourself.  If you find it hard to move, make an accountability partner and do it together!
