Treat each week like it’s January 1st

Treat each week like it’s January 1st
Here's a fun little exercise. Treat each week like January 1st.

I love the New Year because I love fresh starts. We are all geared up ready to be healthy, get in shape, and really take charge. Then... by February (or middle of January sometimes!) we lose steam.

The thing is, you don't need to wait till January 1st to make these big changes. You can start any day! Monday's are great because it's the start of the new work week but truly, any day is fine.

Set a new goal for yourself each Sunday for the week with that same momentum and spirit that you do for January 1st.

My goal for the week is to get off my phone and spend more time outside in nature. Winter is coming so I'm trying to soak it up now!

Magic of a Playlist

Magic of a Playlist
I have a few different playlists for my music based off what I need to do. My top two are working out and meditation. I have kept the majority of the songs the same for years. Every so often, I may add/delete a song. But for the most part, the playlist has stayed the same.

The helpful trick of this? My brain know equates these songs to what my task is. When my workout playlist is on, my brain flips into working out mode. When my meditation playlist is on, my brain flips into a more calm, centered and focused state.

If you need help switching your brain to a task, music can help! Play the same song each time you need to 'transition' to it.

Do you listen to music to help you get tasks done?

My new song obsession is https://open.spotify.com/track/45aBsnKRWUzhwbcqOJLwfe?si=n8hT9KzdR42qObbTXPx2Tw&dl_branch=1&nd=1

What is LeechBlock?

What is LeechBlock?
Technology is great but man, is it hard for us squirrel brains! I open my phone to do one thing, get into another which leads me to a rabbit hole and an hour later I haven’t even done the original thing I needed to do!

We’ve discussed a few strategies and I’m going to continue to add to them! You never know what one might work best for you!

Today is an option called LeechBlock. It’s free! It works on most browsers and has various ways you can use it.

You can:
- block sites outright
- block them for a time limit daily
- block them for a time limit hourly

However, the downside, is that is not an app. You use it on your browser so you can switch browsers to “work around” the block.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants

Antioxidant. A few years ago, this was ‘the’ health buzz word. (For good reason!) But what is it and why does it matter?

Antioxidants are Substances that help protect against free radicals. What are free radicals? Molecules that are produced when the body breaks down things it has been exposed to like smoke, radiation and food. When free radicals are left and not removed, they can cause damage to bodily function. Like the brain.

The good news is that fruit, vegetables all have antioxidants. Each serve unique purposes which is why its so important to vary your diet.

You may see foods labeled as "superfoods" but truly, all components of a healthy diet are needed.

I personally love to drink Ninxia Red from Young Living because the wolfberries it’s made from have some of the highest count of antioxidants on the planet!

Have you seen a "superfood" that you have been curious about if its worth the hype? Let me know and I'll do some sleuthing for you.

Aspartame and The Brain

Aspartame and The Brain
Aspartame is the most widely used artificial sweetener and you may know it better as NutraSweet or Equal. It is in Diet sodas, sugar free products and some medicine.

It has also been linked to some serious health problems. Cancer, mood disorders, Alzheimer's disease and dementia to name just a few.

Aspartame is broken down in the body to methanol which is converted to formaldehyde.

If you’re diet soda drinker and want to ease off the soda, you can check out Zevia soda. It's sweetened with Stevia.

Still need the sweet fix? Honey, maple syrup and coconut sugar are all great alternatives. They are broken down differently in the body which make them okay in moderation.
